Welcome to the website for Pumpkin, and Pepper's Puppies. This is where we will post all information about upcoming litters and progress through their early weeks.

Unfortunately our visit to the vet today was disappointing - the ultrasound revealed that she wasn't pregnant.
Given that this is Pepper's third unsuccessful attempt and that she is now closing in on five years old, we have decided not to try breeding her again. This is disappointing as her genes and test results are exemplary, but we only want the best for her and look forward to her years ahead a our pet.
As Pumpkin has been retired from breeding for a few years, this means that our breeding activities are ceased for the time being. We will post here if and when that situation changes. Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in our dogs over the years. Old English Sheepdogs rule!

It's been an exciting few days as Pepper started her heat cycle yesterday. Time to start planning those vet visits and figure out a sire for what will hopefully be a successful litter this summer!
Here are a few recent pictures of Pepper:

With Pumps' 2015 litter all gone and our home settled again, we are now looking forward to breeding Pepper (Pumpkin's oldest daughter).
Pepper is three years old now and has recently completed all of her pre-breeding tests. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful breeding bitch to replace Pumpkin that is EIC free, her eyes are great and her hips certified by OFA as "Excellent".
Check back soon for updates and pictures of Pepper. We anticipate that her breeding cycle will begin Dec-Jan and a successful litter of puppies might expected to be ready for adoption April-May 2016.

Well, what to say today? Puppies are bigger, stronger, more playful and some will be with us for only a few days more. Posted new pictures on their pages today.

Bigger every day, the puppies now have a real personality and are the most fun to be with. Pictures posted on their individual pages today, "sleeping" and "milk faces". We snapped them while sleeping last night and then just after they'ed had their "nightcap" of a dish of replacement milk.
For the last few weeks we've ended their day with a dish of milk that they demolish at an incredible rate. However, they no longer need that extra milk now and last night was the last time we'll give them that little desert. It's always fun to see their faces after they've plunged as far into the milk dish as they can get!

We took the puppies outside for a playtime today. It was great to see them run around and explore their new world. Individual pictures from their adventure posted to their pages.
Next step is to start getting them outside after each meal - the first step in their house training.

Puppies now moved to the “playpen”, out of the whelping box, as they get bigger, more curious and need mom less.
They are now eating solid food three times a day and long feeding sessions with Pumpkin (as below) are less frequent. More pictures posted to the 2015 litter page and individual pup pages today.

Pumpkin had her litter on the 20th of July, starting at 8:25 in the morning and the last puppy arriving at 11:50. This was a quick delivery for so many puppies... eight! We are proud to introduce: Cate, Cari, Adam, Socks, Faye, Brett, Amy and Lilly - three boys and five girls.
Sorry to take so long to get to updating the website but it's been a long, tiring and stressful week as we've worked constantly to keep the puppies hydrated and gaining weight. With so many pups it's been a challenge for Pumps to achieve all of this herself, but between us all we're starting to see a healthy and beautiful family take shape. We will add a few general pictures of the litter and work having an individual page for each puppy over the next week or so. But... here's the first pic of Pumps and her new brood.

Had Pumpkin's pre-delivery x-ray done today and vet announced that she's having 7 (possibly 8) puppies! Puppies are due next week, 21st give or take a day or two. She's doing well, eating lots and showing signs of nesting behavior. Not long to go now...

We were scheduled to have Pumpkin's ultrasound on Saturday but as we had to take her to the vet to have her leg looked at today, the vet decided it was late enough in her presumed cycle to do the ultrasound today. And she's pregnant!
We saw at least three puppy sacs but ultrasound is not a reliable way of counting puppies, but we'll be thinking about 5-7 pups until the x-ray, a week before pregnancy, that will confirm the number. The vet also estimated the expected whelping date, based on the size of the sacs, and came up with July 21st. This ties in closely with our calculation of July 22nd.

Introducing... Dizzy!
Introducing... Dizzy!
GCH AM CH Blue Denim's The Designer (pictured at the Westminster Show in February 2015)
Dizzy is the sire we have bred Pumpkin with this time around. Pumpkin went on a road trip to see Dizzy in Dallas and we will know in about four weeks if Pumps is pregnant..
We have known Dizzy for a few years now and his pedigree is exceptional. Tested clear for EIC, with good eyes and good hips, Dizzy was awarded SEL (Select Dog) at this year's Westminster Show in New York. We have high hopes that this breeding will be successful and produce some spectacular puppies.

Finally... we are happy to confirm that this week Pumpkin came into season and her breeding cycle has begun - only a month and a half late!
We are now doing regular progesterone tests with our vet to determine the best days to breed, which we expect to be a week or so away at this point. Regular updates assured over the next few days and weeks.

Well, here we go again... Pumpkin is due to start her cycle sometime around mid-March, all of her EIC testing is complete and we intend trying to breed her this time around. This will be Pumps' last litter if all works out as planned but her lovely daughter Pepper is waiting in the wings to take up the reigns as our breeding bitch. Please contact us at any time if you have an interest in adopting a puppy this summer and watch this space for updates.

The second ultrasound was no different from the first unfortunately so Pumpkin is not going to be having puppies this year, or at least not until very late in the year. Please check back in a few months as we start on a new breeding cycle.

We did the ultrasound yesterday and unfortunately the vet did not find any evidence of pregnancy. We will do another ultrasound next week to make sure of the situation but at the moment it looks like Pumpkin has been unlucky this time around.

Pumpkin was bred today at the vets - AI, hoping for best results. All went well and will hopefully be successful. Stay tuned for information as soon as we have it. We should find out when we do an ultrasound on January 23rd. Both pumpkin and our chosen dog looked great today...

The results of Pumpkin's progesterone test today are that she is ready for breeding! We expect to take her to the vet tomorrow morning and hopefully the result (in around 60 days) will be some beautiful puppies.
26th December 2013
We did Pumpkin's breeding check-up and first progesterone test at the vets yesterday. Her progesterone is still low and we will test again on Monday. Meanwhile, the sire (Wellesley) traveled down from San Antonio to do his hips x-ray and eye test. Right now it looks like breeding may be sometime Jan 1st-4th, but we will keep looking at the test results and take the vets advice.
24th December 2013
Pumpkin is now officially into her breeding cycle (as of Dec 18th). Her first progesterone test is scheduled for Thursday 26th and hopefully breeding soon thereafter. This is when things start to get exciting and the prospect of a new litter very real.
12th December 2013
We are now several weeks into the waiting game that is waiting for Pumps to start her heat cycle. Never one to be rushed, it could be any day now, but as usual she's later than expected.
We do plan on breeding Pumpkin this time around and will uses the same sire as last time - they produced such wonderful pups last time. All other arrangements are in place, just waiting for nature...

Here's a little information about Pumpkin:
Pumpkin (Lanward Petunia's Little Pumpkin) was whelped in Houston on the 30th of October 2009. She was a singleton pup and we brought her home when she was 18 months old after a visit to her breeder. Pumps has been a member of our family since then and had her first litter of pups with us in August 2012. Currently we expect to breed her again sometime in 2013. If you are interested in information about future litters and/or being added to our adoption list, please contact us.
We also have Pumpkin's first born bitch - Pepper - who lives with us and eventually (when she's fully mature) we will probably breed Pepper.
